Korean Lesson No.3

Now.. let me teach you people about names and countries.

Names

Names are more like, translating English to Korean.. but just that, sometimes it sounds weird. let me show you some examples.

Sarah - 사 라 - sara
Mike - 매 이 케 - ma i kae
Susan - 수 산 - su sun
Wang Ming - 왕 밍 - wang ming
Sujin - 수 진 - su ching

The english words after the hangul is how you should pronounce, and not what the hangul represent.

Countries

Countries have two kinds. One is like directly translated, the other is abit similar but different form. Let examples show you.

Korean - 한 국 - han guk
Japan - 일 본 - ill bond
China - 중 국 - chung guk
America - 미 국 - mi guk
England - 영 국 - yong guk
Ireland - 아 일 랜 드 - ail lan due
Australia - 호 주 - ho chu

So if you want to introduce yourself where you come from.. try it this way. Im going to show you a conversation, including both name and countries.

A: 안 녕 하 세 요, 이 름 이 워 예 요?
B: 안 녕 하 세 요, 저 는 사 라 이 에 요.
A: 사 라씨 는 , 어 디 에 서 웠어 요?
B: 저 는 호 주 시 드 니 에 서 웠어 요.
B: 저 는호 주사 람이 에 요.


A: An nyeong ha se yo, i reum i mwo ye yo?
B: An nyeong ha se yo, jeo neun sa ra i e yo.
A: Sa ra-ssi neun, eodi eseo wasseoyo?
B: Jeo neun ho ju sideuni eseo wasseyeo.
B: Jeo neun, ho ju saram i e yo.

A: Hello, whats your name?
B: Hello, my name is Sarah.
A: Sarah, where do you come from?
B: I come from Sydney in Australia.
B: Im a australian.
